CALA

A multi award-winning chair

CALA | a multi award-winning chair

Presented in May 2019, the Cala chair, designed by Martin Ballendat, immediately received two important prizes awarded by a qualified panel of judges: the Iconic Awards and the Materialica Design + Technology Awards. A source of immense satisfaction for DIEMMEBI on its debut partnership with the German designer who also received the Mixology Award in 2019 for Architectural firm of the year, organised by the English editorial group, Mix Group.

The Iconic Awards seek out the best furniture and interior designs and Cala won the Innovative Interior award for the Office & Workplace category. During imm cologne 2020, at the Kölnische Kunstverein, the chair will be exhibited in a show dedicated to the winning products. Visitors to the fair will also have the opportunity to find more about the chair on Diemmebi’s stand.

Materialica Design+Technology Awards is an award organised by MunichExpo and given to the best products combining design and technology. For the 2019 edition, projects which focus on sustainability and the careful use of resources have been selected. These are elements which play a key role in the development of new materials and their application. Cala has won an award in the Products category thanks to its eco-sustainable features. The chair is, in fact, entirely made of recyclable materials combined in a perfect design.

Cala is a stackable chair for use in office and communal areas. The lattice-style structure not only avoids the build-up of dust, but also means that the seat and back rest can be slotted together without the use of screws. The design, based on injection moulded plastic parts, has also allowed simple polypropylene to be used.

Available in different colours, Cala is the ideal chair for use in a variety of different settings, from the office to contract and hospitality areas. Form and function are expertly combined to create a highly comfortable product. The collaboration between Diemmebi and Ballendat has been a resounding success, so much so that the 2019 product types are just a sneak preview of the 2020 production. The range will be further expanded with additional frame types.
